Travel Along the Trail
Welcome to the Cattaraugus-McKean County Golf Trail of New York and Pennsylvania, the focus of FORE! GOLF magazine. Published four times each year (Spring, Summer, Fall, and a special pre-season show edition which traveled to the Toronto Star Golf & Travel Show this past March), FORE! GOLF offers golf enthusiasts and their families the perfect opportunity to experience all the wonderful courses throughout the two counties, as well as area attractions and upcoming events. FORE! From the northern most part of Cattaraugus County, New York to the southern tip of McKean County, Pennsylvania, travel along the trail, immerse yourself deep in its history, and discover all there is to enjoy!
Turkey Run near Arcade, NY is an excellent 9-hole golf course known for its magnificent scenery from many locations throughout the course. Its name is appropriately matched to the presence of wild turkeys often seen in the nearby farms and fields. (Phone 716-492-2888)
Waterway Hills, also located in Cattaraugus County in Cuba, NY, sits on property which was once a working family farm owned by the Shaffer family since 1919. Work to convert part of the property into a golf course began in 1996, with its official opening in 2000. (Phone 716-372-9144.)
The Pennhills Club of Bradford, PA, a private course, will open its doors to visitors this spring, offering special lodging, food and unlimited golf packages. With its championship golf course and majestic brick and slate clubhouse, The Pennhills Club is along the area’s must-play courses. (Phone 814-368-6159, www.pennhillsclub.com)
Perhaps one of the most sought out golf destinations along the Trail is the four-season resort of Holiday Valley, located in Ellicottville, NY. Operating as a top East Coast ski resort in the wintertime, come summer Holiday Valley pulls out the green carpet for players of varying skills. On-site accommodations offer a multitude of lodging, dining and relaxation choices. The Tamarack Club boasts indoor/outdoor heated pools, hot tubs and saunas, valet/bell service, a full-service spa, and a top-notch brew house with outdoor patio seating overlooking the golf course.
